Packing Tips When Moving

Are you putting off packing up your entire house to move because you don’t know where to begin? It can be an intimidating and overwhelming process. Here are a few tips and tricks to make the process a little smoother and a lot less stressful!

Save Energy

Don’t procrastinate packing because it’s nearly impossible to pack up your entire house in a short amount of time. Instead, try packing up one room at a time. Not sure which room to start in? Try the ones that aren’t used daily. Those items will most likely not be missed during the moving period. By spreading it out, the process becomes less stressful and a lot more manageable. You may also find yourself going through things more thoroughly and getting rid of things your no longer use.

Save Time

Label everything. You can never be too organized, especially when packing up all of your belongings. Before you know it, you have more packed up then you thought possible. You will thank yourself later when you’re bringing your things into your new home and you know which room to deliver them. This not only saves you time when moving in but also when your unpacking. Another efficient way to save time is to pack an “open first” box. It will contain all your essential items that you use daily. Knowing exactly where these things are and not having them get lost in a random box is key.

Save Money

It’s easy to spend money when moving because you need a surplus amount of boxes, bubble wrap and packing tape. An easy way to save some money is to get creative with what you already have. Instead of boxes, try using any bags, baskets and suitcases you already own. Instead of bubble wrap, try using any blankets, towels and clothes. Not only is this a great way to consolidate what you are packing, they can provide more cushion then bubble wrap or packing paper. Your suitcases are a good choice for some of your heavier items because you can roll suitcases. See our packing tip below on the best way to transport clothes!

Tip:

Keep your clothes on the hanger - add a trash bag to the bottom to bunch them together and tie it off at the top. Take them directly from your former closet to your new one. These makeshift garment bags will protect your clothes during the move and arrive in your new place ready-to-hang.
